Introduction to National Memorial East Flags

The 52 Flags, originally designed and created by Joe Sabol and the team of Howard and Connie McPherson were used at the National Memorial East at Groton Connecticut for display and ceremonial purposes.
These flags were used to compliment the 52 white granite stones at this memorial site.
In March 2003, Joe Sabol kindly arranged for the use of the graphics for preservation and display of the flags on this web site. Our thanks and appreciation go to Joe Sabol's daughter Sharon, who did the electronic transfer of the graphics.
It was Connie McPherson who did the research on the various State colors used on each flag. Howard McPherson orchestrated the procurement of the flags.
Readers will note that each "Lost Boat" is associated with a State in the USA. This assignment was for the purpose of encouraging the members of the various Chapters of the U.S. Submarine Veterans of WWII to build their own State memorials and adopt each "Lost Boat" as their own special responsibility. By the year 2003 virtually all the States have monuments or displays of one type or another.
